What kind of leadership legacy left in the world to be admired?
Once a year we are reminded again about our fathers on this day in the United States of America (USA) and in few other countries in the world. Who and where this celebration started, I am sure you may know it?
As a father of two (2) grown-up children, I know that fatherhood is the leadership in the family. It is a very hard team effort tasks that need to be managed daily both at work and family simultaneously. Because of my Heavenly Father, and worldly father‘s blessings I am able to live and provide sincere service to my family and communities so far! I think and believe that whoever has provided services to his family, keeping our Lord Jesus Christ as “the Leader and Head of the family,” as the first priority is a father who has provided his leadership under His guidance has done his great job in this world, which is everlasting.
However, in order to have that “faith,” someone needs to be helped and guided! In fact, we need a servant of God to do this work! You may wonder who would be that person who helped us in our family to have that “faith.” In fact, in my family many years ago it was none other than John Wesley, who changed our family’s lives by providing the “Good News” through his ministry to my forefathers.
As you may know that in this business or corporate world there are few leadership styles and/or skills (e.g., Autocratic and Bureaucratic, etc), and this I first learned in my graduate (MBA) program in the late 80s in the USA. As part of my studies, I had to write papers on this subject and got a very good grade (A+), for which I was surprised due to few reasons. However, after working few years in the corporate world and at the same time providing services to our Lord through my denomination “Methodist” church as a voluntary person, now I came to know that there is only the leadership style that works both in the corporate and religious world, which is “Servant Leadership.”
Can you guess who provided the “Servant Leadership,” to our forefathers, so that their children and grandchildren can have the same faith? Yes, it was John Wesley who implemented this leadership in the 18th century when the Autocratic and Bureaucratic style of leadership had dominated. How since then his leadership overcame the other styles is the result of his ministry throughout the generations.
Few articles came across as I was writing on this topic that is both Mother’s and Father’s Day initially started at Methodist Church in the USA. This indicates that how effective his ministry was throughout the centuries. So on this Father’s Day let us admire our leader (founder of Methodism), and the spiritual father who provided us the message of having a “faith” in Living God through whom we have the eternal life. I am sure many people had or have better jobs because of his ministry. What a blessing it is?
Yes, I am one of the beneficiaries’ of his ministry and admire him greatly. How about you? If you like, share your thoughts and personal experience about his ministry. Appreciated!
