Adversity Versus Adversary

Why do adversities strike with surprise or horror in our lives? Are we prepared to face adversities? Does he or she know how to handle or manage an adversity when it strikes?

I’m sure many of us faced various adversities in our lives; however, in recent past months I had few calamities, even though it was not the first time for me to overcome these difficulties, but recent ones shocked me. As a result, few common questions crossed my mind as I was going through the hard times; therefore, this blog is about asking for answers.

When faced with an adversity, I noticed that the adversary (1 Peter 5:8 NKJV), plays all kinds of tricks. However, the recent catastrophes hit me very hard, and at one point I felt as if my faith was once again tested.

Calamities will strike in our lives with different shapes and forms without any notice. When catastrophes hit, I noticed that we can replace the material things or items, but not the psychological and emotional damages. In fact, there are no manuals or handbooks in this world to help and restore the emotional damages that cause us. Then how in real life one can handle these situations peacefully?

In my case, the only and real “handbook,” or source of help and comfort was the “Holy Bible.” Yes, during adversities we will end up facing discouragements and/or temptations, but as Apostle Paul stated that “no temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it (1 Cor. 10:13 NKJV).” Once again I was reminded that soon after John baptizes Jesus Christ; he was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil (Matt. 4:1 NKJV). Jesus tells the devil, “it is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Mtt.4:4 NKJV).”

Yes, the word of God helped me to overcome these adversities, in spite of adversary’s attempts to put me in worldly fears and horrors.  Had it not for my faith that is anchored in God of the “Holy Bible and His words,” I don’t know what would have been our family lives. Therefore, I admire God’s servant who first provided the “Good News” to our forefather, and I thank God for His grace. Shalom!
